Bruce Shaw was a complete rebuild for a large construction company based in London. I was only involved in the UX and Discovery stages where I had some prominent effects on the site.

Firstly I needed to build up a profile of what the site was, what areas it had, and what each of those areas was doing. To do this, I built up a physical sitemap; this allowed me to grasp the critical areas of the site. Once I had this, it was time to look at the analytics.

For this site, I needed to do lots research on the website, the first part of that being some delving into Google Analytics to try and understand what the general user was doing. I would take my key findings and apply that to the discussion we would have with the client, which would finally show in the wireframes.

My primary finding was that this site that promoted its services and its blog posts had most of its traffic going towards a very different part of the site. It showed that most people wanted to view the bio’s of the staff that currently work there, which finally led to people trying to look for careers.

It was clear that the initial site added the about us page and the careers pages as an afterthought, this is what led to a massive change in how the site was designed going forward, we made sure to focus on the careers aspect and the personal side of the business.
