Oki-Nami

Oki-Nami was one of the most enjoyable projects of my time at Pixeldot. It was quite a small micro-site for a Japanese restaurant that serves cocktails, sushi, and other Japanese food. For this, we wanted to focus on some prominent aspects of Japanese culture.

Some of the aspects we used in the branding were the use of folded edges to give the site an origami-style feeling, and a wave in the style of ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’. Combining these two very Japanese parts of design and art, it felt like a perfect fit for the buttons and other elements of the website.

The build was quite a quick one with our base theme in WordPress, but approaching the folded edge buttons was a unique and fun challenge.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this project, and it allowed me to look at some Japanese aspects of design and their culture. Japanese culture is something I would love to study more and incorporate into more of my designs with the focus of minimalism.
